Design Of The Month

Santa’s Top Carrot Paddock
Santa needs to grow a lot of carrots each year to feed his reindeer. He tried growing carrots on beds but didn’t realize the beds restrict cross drainage and this meant a significant portion of his wheel tracks held water. This was a nightmare for all field work and harvesting was a big mess.

Existing Topography

Drainage Analysis
Water ponds more than 25% when beds/furrows are used in the E-W direction as shown in the Existing Drainage Analysis image below. This was costing Santa over $55,000 in lost production not to mention the nightmare with machinery.

Proposed Topography
Ponding areas were eliminated using OptiSurface 1Way with earthworks of only 68 yd3/ac.
