Design Of The Month

Davco Sugarcane
Furrow Irrigation for Sugarcane Plantation

This field is part of the new farm being developed by Davco for furrow irrigation. Water will be coming from the west edge and exit to the south east.

Existing Topography
If you can't see any images here, click 'Display images..' in your email software.
OptiSurface 1Way was used with slopes set to 0.10% – 0.40% for irrigation infiltration uniformity and a subzone was in the taildrain added to make sure water exits to the southeast corner.

Proposed Topography
If you can't see any images here, click 'Display images..' in your email software.

The earthworks is a bit high at 497 m³/ha which is mostly due to the cutting of the ridge in the middle.

Proposed Cut/Fill Map

Haul Analysis
If you can't see any images here, click 'Display images..' in your email software.
The Haul Analysis was run on the Cut/Fill Map using the parameters shown in the Feature of the Month. The details are discussed in the walkthrough video and the results are shown below with an estimated time of 38.4 hrs.

Feature Of The Month

Haul Analysis
Overview:  Haul Analysis (OptiHaul) allows you to calculate the optimum hauling directions for the Cut/Fill Map.

Displayed by:
Menu: Tools > Haul Analysis
Toolbar:

Appearance:

Boundary:  The boundary to carry the analysis out on.

Calculation Grid Spacing (m or ft): The cell spacing of the grid that the haul analysis is calculated on.

Calculation Grid Direction (deg):  The direction of the grid rotation.

Cut/Fill Ratio: The volume of cut / volume of fill and should be in the range of 1.1 to 1.5 depending on the soil type and its condition. We recommend following the Cut/Fill Ratio used in the landform design.

Import (m3 or yd3):  The volume of soil to bring into the field boundary area from an external area. This volume is taken into account when balancing earthworks to the cut fill ratio.

Export (m3 or yd3):  The volume of soil to remove from the field boundary area to an external area. This volume is taken into account when balancing earthworks to the cut fill ratio.

Swell Factor (%):  Percentage of the soil from cutting the ground to swelling up to the scraper.

Scraper Capacity (LCM or LCY): The capacity of the scraper in Loose Cubic Meters (or Loose Cubic Yards) after it has swelled up.

Scraper Width (m or yd):  The width of the scraper. If using tandem scrapers then width of a single scraper should be used.

Scraper Max. Cut/Fill (m or yd):  The limit of the cut taken or fill dumped at one time to avoid the equipment cutting or dumping too deep for each pass.

Field Efficiency (%):  Percent of time the machine is actually doing productive work.

Ave. Loading Speed (km/h or m/h):  Average speed while the scraper is cutting soil.

Max. Haul Speed (km/h or m/h):  Maximum speed while hauling a full scraper.

Ave. Dumping Speed (km/h or m/h):  Average speed while dumping the soil in fill areas.

Max. Return Speed (km/h or m/h):  Maximum speed when returning to the cut area with an empty scraper.

Acceleration Time (s):  Time taken to get from loading speed up to maximum haul speed and from dumping speed up to maximum return speed.

Deceleration Time (s): Time taken to get from maximum haul speed down to dumping speed and to get from maximum return speed back down to loading speed.

Video Walkthrough:  Watch this video as Graeme discusses this new feature. You can watch it on YouTube for better resolution up to 1080p.
